Aranesp
Aranesp is an an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA) manufactured by Amgen. It is used to treat anemia in patients who have undergone kidney failure or have developed anemia as the result of chemotherapy treatment. In March 2007, the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a health advisory regarding ESAs, including Procrit, Epogen and Aranesp, pointing to studies that show a risk of stroke, heart attack, or death for patients with renal failure when hemoglobin levels are raised higher than indicated.
